Our pupils have been very active over past months and have competed in many different sporting competitions:-
Our swimmers took 2nd place in the Inter-School Swimming Gala
Our Senior Hockey team came a close 2nd in the Inter-Schools’ Hockey tournament, while our Junior team won their section.
Our Tag Rugby teams did very well their recent tournament with our Senior team winning their section.
The recent Inter-Schools’ Soccer tournament was a great success. We entered two senior teams, a junior team, and for the first time ever, a girls team! Our senior teams did very well with one team winning; our junior team also won as did our girls after a very tense penalty shootout! Well done to all teams, coaches, reps and referees – it could not happen without you!
Douglas Tidy Towns recently held an art competition for 4th and 5th class pupils entitled ‘Pride in our Woods’. Congratulations to Hailey Figueredo who won 2nd prize. Pictures are displayed in Douglas Shopping Centre.
Congratulations to Julia McCarthy who was national runner-up in the 5th/6th class category of the INTO Handwriting competition. A fantastic achievement!
Fifth class recently participated in a BizWorld programme, sponsored by Bank of Ireland. This involved the pupils devising their own business ideas and presenting these in front of a ‘Dragon’. The pupils worked in groups and the winning idea was based on a travel bottle which could hold both food and a drink. Well done to Samuel, Jack, Leslie, Abby and Nathan who came up with the idea. Thank you to Aidan Walsh and Mick Healy of Bank of Ireland for their help with this project.

To celebrate World Book Day on 3rd March 2016, pupils made and wore hats designed to reflect their favourite books. We had a wide variety of hats of all shapes and sizes. Well done to everyone who took part. The following won prizes for their creativity:- Isobel Kingston, Harry McDaid, Kirsty McBride, Samuel Johnson, Deborah Donovan, Julia McCarthy, Jessica Healy, Jake Hanafin, Isaac Sutton, Heather Barry, Alistair Dunne, Andrea Whittaker, Erika Healy, Clara Crichton and Laura Barry.
Congratulations to all pupils who took part in the recent Inter-Schools’ Hockey Tournament. Both our Senior and Junior teams made the final in their respective sections. Our Senior Team were beaten 4-0 by Midleton in the final and our Junior Team beat Midleton 2-1 in the final, bringing home the silverware for a second year in succession. It was a great day and wonderfully organised by Orla Kingston and her team of helpers. Well done to all!
The pupils of St. Luke’s present a cheque to Niamh Quain from Cork Simon Community. This money was raised at our end of term service.
